The Power of the Purse

May 31 2012, 6:48 AM

Yesterday we had the incredible opportunity to hear Gloria Steinem address a sold-out crowd of 1,100 at the 8th annual Power of the Purse luncheon. At one point during her Q & A session, Ms. Steinem raised both hands in the air and proclaimed "This is what 78 looks like!" to cheers and applause. She left no doubt that she is still full of fire and wisdom for the causes of justice and equality.

The event included the announcement of $252,000 in grants to nonprofits addressing economic security for women and girls in Western North Carolina made by the Women for Women giving circle, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Since 2005, the Women for Women giving circle has made grants totaling more than $1.75 million.
